RAISING THE SPIRIT OF
INDEPENDENCE, SACRIFICING FOR RELIGION AND HOMELAND
The Movement for an Informed
Society Malaysia (WADAH) in all sincerity and gratefulness is thankful to Allah
All Mighty on the occasion of Malaysia's 60th Merdeka Celebration on 31 August
2017.
Independence is a blessing and
grace of huge importance to the people. Independence means being free from the
shackles of colonialism. Independence signifies that we have the power to
govern and the self determination to ensure the nation’s future according to
our own will and resolve. For those reasons, independence is a very precious
possession which has to be defended by life and limb.
Independence however, does not
end with successfully liberating the country from colonial rule. What is more
important is how we administer independence with sound effort to foster people
to become a dignified and outstanding nation advocating the principles of
justice, fairness and upright moral values.
It shall be more meaningful if
national development is implemented so that it is well balanced and sustainable
by sharing the nation’s wealth equitably. The people shall have the freedom and
opportunity to work for a living and actualise their life’s objectives. At the
same time, they are free and empowered to voice out their opinions and
criticism towards common public good. Independence is meaningless if the
nation’s wealth is enjoyed only by a small cluster of elites and capitalists,
while the majority of the people suffer from deprivation and higher living
costs. Independence is also hollow if the people are deprived of the right to
freedom of speech and the liberty to state their views according to democratic
principles. What is the meaning of independence if bad values and nefarious
conduct such as corruption, wasteful squander, pornography, immorality,
politics of hate and politics of fear becomes viral and culminate as acceptable
culture to society at large?
The appreciation of independence
should thrust and propel the theme of freedom from the chains of witlessness,
stupidity, being dumbified, culture of corruption, venality and deceit, and
abject immorality not only involving common folk but also the leaders in power.
True independence denotes successfully raising human dignity and national respect
which are noble religious principles.
The Movement for an Informed
Society Malaysia (WADAH) acknowledges the momentous occasion where millions of
Muslims are assembled in the Holy Land to perform Hajj, the fifth Pillar of
Islam. This annual gathering espouses the philosophy of sacrifice and as
attestation of the spirit of freedom from the enslavement to the likes of
humans, selfishness and worldliness, to worshipping only Allah the
Almighty.
The proclamation of Hajj is the
crowning testament of Iman and Taqwa – Faith and God
Consciousness in bringing about a citizen of the nation and of the world who is
truly liberated and independent.
May the soul of independence be
etched in the hearts of the people and be fortified with the essence of
sacrifice to preserve the dignity of religion, nation and homeland.
