MEDIA STATEMENT
LET US ALL RETURN ANWAR IBRAHIM BACK TO PARLIAMENT WHERE HE BELONGS
The Port Dickson Move is a valid and normal political strategy to get back
into Parliament in such circumstances as faced by Anwar Ibrahim because it is
legal and a way whereby the electorate can lawfully return a leader of their
choice to the august House. It is a tried and tested democratic means.
Anwar Ibrahim was an MP and Parliamentary opposition leader just before he
was unceremoniously removed by trumped up charges resulting in a long prison
sentence which had disqualified his status as MP.
He has since been released and fully pardoned by His Majesty the King which
absolved him from any wrongdoing and has expunged any trace of criminality from
his records.
He is the leader of Parti Keadilan Rakyat, a partner in the present ruling
coalition. Anwar was the chief negotiator and peacemaker in the run up to
forming a fruitful and effective political pact which made winning GE14 on 9
May 2018 possible.
He is also the designated Prime Minister in waiting as formally agreed by
Tun Dr Mahathir and all of the PH partners as well as being popularly accepted
by the rakyat. His place and responsibility is to be there to lead the nation
to success if the rakyat choses him.
Anwar Ibrahim is a Malaysian, a practising Muslim, a Malay, a democrat and
he fights for justice and freedom for all Malaysians, and there is no problem
or contradiction in all of these.
We should call out and put a stop to his detractors, who on one hand,
want to paint him 'liberal' and a 'sell out', while on the other extreme
slander him ‘a closet Taliban'.
Anwar Ibrahim has been consistent throughout as a man striving for reform,
fighting corruption, working hard for accountability and good governance, and
championing the politics of idealism, emphasizing moral imperatives and
ethics in defending democracy and upholding justice transcending race and
religion, for all Malaysians.
Anwar Ibrahim's victory shall ensure the nation’s political stability as
well as enabling an orderly implementation of the national leadership's
succession plan thus safeguarding the continuity of Tun Mahathir's post-GE14
government.
We urge the people to come out en masse and vote resoundingly for Anwar
Ibrahim.
